Corona and BRI: How India managed to be a Winner.

The Bleeding Ink

China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) or yi dai yi lu, is a “21st century silk road,” made up of a belt of land corridors and maritime route of shipping lanes. Ranging from South-East Asia to Europe and Africa, the BRI includes 71 countries that make up approximately half of the world’s population and a quarter of global GDP.
The Belt and Road Initiative is expected to cost more than $1tn (£760bn), China has already invested more than $210bn but the inception of the COVID-19 cast a cloud over the progress of this Chinese vision.

BRI is a state-backed campaign for global dominance and a massive marketing campaign for Chinese investments. The Sri Lankan Government has leased a port to a Chinese company for 99 years after failing to make repayments.
Djibouti, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, the Maldives, Mongolia, Montenegro, Pakistan and Tajikistan – are among the poorest in their respective regions and will owe more…

What’s all the fuss about HydroxyChloroQuine?

The Bleeding Ink

Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheBleedingInk9

There has to be something about this drug HydroxyChloroQuine that is making arguably the most powerful person on the planet go ga-ga over it so as to the extent of threatening retaliation to it’s best friend India.

Normally used to treat malaria, hydroxychloroquine has emerged as a potential treatment for the treatment of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19. Though there has not been proven clinically and there is no strong evidence of it’s efficiency, still some people are self-medicating with this drug ushering themselves to disastrous consequences. An Arizona man is dead and his wife is hospitalized after both of them self-medicated with chloroquine, in an effort to ward off the novel coronavirus.

During a press conference on March 19, Trump stated that chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine have “been around for a long time, so we know that if it…

Trace Test Treat: The Way Forward

The Bleeding Ink

Countries cannot simply lock down their societies to defeat coronavirus, the World Health Organization’s top emergency expert said, adding that public health measures are equally needed to curb the proliferation of this virus.

Dr Mike Ryan said: “What we really need to focus on is finding those who are sick, those who have the virus, and isolate them, find their contacts and isolate them,”in an interview on the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show.

In the year 2012, On the World Malaria Day, WHO launched an initiative called T3: Test, Treat, Track, urging malaria-endemic countries, donors and the global malaria community to scale up diagnostic testing, treatment and surveillance for malaria. This framework was provided for the endemic countries to strengthen these three pillars of malaria control and elimination.

The recent inception of COVID-19 requires understanding transmission patterns. Cases and close contactsin the general population can be restrictedto close settings(like…

Why COVIDIOTS and “Corona Rebels” are a threat?

The Bleeding Ink

“Some consider they’re little heroes when they break the rules,” well actually they are a threat to themselves and to the society.
A new breed has evolved, an omni-resistant breed called “Corona Rebels”, capable of repelling even the novel corona virus. Their audacity to flout the lockdown orders as well as social distancing would make one doubtful of the level of understanding these people possess.
In defiance of all the social distancing norms, german adults hold “corona parties” and cough toward older people.
In response to the non-compliance by people, french authorities sent forces in order to bar the movement to the countryside and beaches where medical facilities are fragile.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on Saturday that people from 18-to-49 account for more than half of the state’s coronavirus cases, warning them “you’re not Superman, and you’re not Superwoman.”
“You can wind up hurting someone who you…

Convalescent Plasma Therapy: Is it a promising treatment for COVID-19 ?

The Bleeding Ink

Ever since the outbreak of COVID-19, that originated in the city of Wuhan, more than a million have contracted Corona virus disease and more than 59000 people have lost their lives.
No specific treatment or vaccine has yet been effective against SARS-CoV-2.
However, several supportive treatments like medication to reduce fever and supplemental oxygen apart from drugs such as Remdesivir and Chloroquine may be administered by the doctors.
For those patients with SARS whose condition deteriorated even after the treatment, convalescent plasma has been used as a last resort. A shorter hospital stay and lower mortality has been observed for the patients treated with convalescent plasma.
In 2014, the WHO recommended the use of Convalescent Plasma collected from the patients who have recovered from the Ebola disease. The Convalescent Plasma therapy involves collection of plasma from recovered patients and using it for clinical treatment of the patients.
